Henley Classic Open Water

2014 saw the first annual Varsity Henley Swim. The Henley Classic is a 2.1km endurance event held at the Henley Royal Regatta course, very early on the Sunday morning before the Wednesday start of the Royal Regatta. The event is a celebration of mid-summer. It provides a unique opportunity to swim one of the most famous and beautiful stretches of open water in the world, at what we believe is the most beautiful time of the day, dawn.

This year, the match will be held on 28th June and promises to be an even bigger and better event than last year. With the addition of an alumni match and mass participation event there’s even more opportunity for fierce rivalry between the universities.

The format of the event will be as follows:

  • Elite Varsity Match
  • Elite Alumni Varsity Match

Each of these will have 4 men and 4 women from each university, with the cumulative time of the 1st 3 men or women determining the results.

  • Mob match – this will be open to all swimmers capable of safely completing the 2.1km and results will be determined on taking the cumulative time from the smaller time and the equivalent number of the fastest swimmers from the other university.
