11th-13th Nov 2011 – BUCS shortcourse

Tom Booth and Kouji Urata become County Champions

Oxon & N Bucks Counties Championships 2011

This year we had a high club attendance at the County Championships with some fantastic outcomes. Well done to everyone who swam! In twelve individuals events we had OUSC swimmers coming in the top three for their age group. In the men’s 100m Fly Tom Booth stormed the pool to come first ahead of all other competitors thus earning the title of County Champion. Tom was closely followed by Kouji Urata who cam third. A 1st, 3rd finish is a great testimony to the guy’s hard work, particularly as Jack Marriott another fly swimmer was at British Championship and could thus not take part. Kouji Urata also dominated in the men’s 200m Fly, going on to raise the trophy of County Champion in this event for the second year running. The men’s 200m Breaststroke became one of the highlights of the championships and after a delayed start due to ‘technical problems’ (the band of his trunks had torn) Tom Varley laid down a great race to come 3rd overall. The ladies also had a good championship despite some members of the team not being able to take part due to Prelims. After coming in the top three in her age group for a total of 5 events, Katherine Rollins went on to come second overall in the women’s 200m Breaststroke. It was a successful and enjoyable championship for OUSC – good work!

The Varsity match is one of the main events of the year and will this year be held at the Rosenblatt Pool in Oxford.

The nature of the varsity match only being between Oxford and Cambridge makes this a very intense event. With Oxford on home ground the 2012 match promises to be very exciting.

The provisional timetable will be published soon. Please keep checking for updates.
